How It Works

From the moment you get in touch to the day itself, here is what you can expect when you work with me.

Getting to Know You

This is where everything begins. Wherever possible, I love to meet in person, at your home, a favourite spot, or wherever feels comfortable, so we can have a proper conversation about the person or people at the heart of your ceremony.

For weddings, that means hearing your whole story: how you met, the proposal, the people who will play a special role, your ideas for music, rituals and readings, and the feeling you want the day to have.

For naming ceremonies, it's about your family, your values and the atmosphere you want to create.

For a celebration of life, it's about gathering the stories, the quirks, the humour and the moments that made that person who they were.

I'll stay as long as you need me to; usually an hour or two, sometimes longer. There's no rush. If I get home and realise there's something I want to explore further, I'll be in touch.

Script Writing

The best ceremonies aren't the ones with the fanciest words. They're the ones where everyone in the room recognises the person, or the people, in every single line.

Most of the work happens before I ever type a word. Real listening, the right questions, and the kind of conversation that finds the details people forget to mention. From there I write, revise and refine until it sounds exactly right; nothing that could have been written for anyone else.

For weddings, that means words that sound like the two of you, said out loud on the best day of your life. Not a script for a wedding - a script for your wedding.

Revisions

As many as you need. It isn't my ceremony, it's yours, and I want it to feel exactly right. I just ask that we have the final version signed off a week before the day, so we can all relax knowing it's ready.

Rehearsal (Weddings only)

If you'd like a run-through before the day, I'm more than happy to arrange one. For venues within 20 miles of Leigh on Sea, I'll come to you a day or two before at no extra cost. For further afield, we'll have a chat about what works best, including any travel or accommodation needed, which I'll always be upfront about in advance.

The Day Itself

I'll arrive at least an hour before we begin. From there, consider your worries handed over.

I'll liaise with your venue, your suppliers, your musicians, your photographer: whoever needs to know what's happening and when. I'll make sure everything is set, the space looks right, and everyone is ready.

If someone in your wedding party is coordinating on the day, I'm more than happy to work alongside them too.

Any special messages for your guests before we begin? Leave that with me. You just focus on being present for the moment you've been waiting for.

Your Keepsakes

After the ceremony, you'll receive a beautifully printed keepsake copy of your script, something to keep, reread and treasure long after the day itself.

For weddings, I can also create a personalised ceremony certificate to sign in front of your guests on the day, as well as printed vow booklets, kept secret from each of you until the moment you’d like them.
